Low-Carb StressLess Breakfast Sandwich
Tony and I have been - for the most part - watching our carb intake in an effort to lose some weight.
As such, we’ve been finding ways to satisfy certain cravings in a healthier way.
We are also big fans of breakfast. Breakfast is a huge part of my camping memories as a kid. Plus, you may or may not know, we owned a bed and breakfast and those habits of a hearty, delicious breakfast are hard to break.
Junk Food Life
In the past, we used to occasionally swing through the Golden Arches and order the Griddle Sandwich - which we nicknamed the “salty-sweetie-cheesie-meaty” sandwich. While we never kidded ourselves into thinking this was even remotely healthy, we did enjoy the flavor combination once in a while.
Our healthier way
Since cutting back on the junk food, we hardly ever drive through anywhere anymore. We spend a lot more time making our meals inside the travel trailer. But sometimes we still get a craving for those old junk-food days.
In order to satisfy the “salty-sweetie-cheesie-meaty” craving, we designed our own breakfast sandwich. We think it’s a total winner! We make our an “open-face” version and it is so satisfying!
Salty
We will come full circle when we get to the meaty part. Because we make sausage patties as one of the layers, and those have a bit of saltiness to them. Also, we put salt and pepper on our eggs as we fry them.
Sweetie
The waffle. Now, I know what you are thinking: waffles are pure carb! However, we found a way to make them that isn’t carb-loaded. A scoop of vanilla-flavored protein powder, an egg, and a tablespoon of coconut milk makes a terrific, low-carb, high-protein waffle. We make big batches of tiny waffles using our Dash waffle iron. When we are ready for a sweet treat they are right there waiting for us.
Cheesie
A slice of cheese. Need I say more? We usually have three or four types of cheese on hand, to mix and match whatever we are combining it with.
Meaty
As promised, we are back to the sausage layer. We buy bulk sausage, or bulk pork and add our favorite sausage seasoning from savoryspiceshop.com and make our own patties.
