Honest review of the IceMule Jaunt 15L backpack cooler

Honest review of the IceMule Jaunt 15L backpack cooler

What is the IceMule Jaunt backpack cooler and how does it work? Recently the folks at IceMule reached out to us and asked if we wanted to try their backpack cooler with the promise that this is good for backpacking, hiking, bicycling and that sort of thing. Since we’re not as into that as we should be we asked our friends Mickey and Michael if they would try it out and let us know what they thought of it.

What is the IceMule Jaunt portable cooler?

IceMule coolers are actually a family of portable coolers that are designed to be carried around. The company’s products range from small 9 liter coolers with over-the-shoulder straps to rather large 23 liter backpacks with multiple attachment features and pockets.

Several of their coolers, including the 15 liter Jaunt that they sent us, are available in a variety of colors and styles. What we got was a turquoise Jaunt which is a backpack-style cooler.

How it works

Effectively what you have is a double-layered body. You inflate the body of the cooler which creates an air gap between the inner and outer layer. Air is actually an effective insulating tool as we’ve discovered with our AirSkirts inflatable cooler as well as with our Flated truck topper. We even have an inflatable skylight vent insulator that’s proven to be a good way to keep out excessive heat or excessive cold.

Michael commented, “we were at the beach for 4 hours and the Jaunt did not skip a beat with keeping everything cold.”

Build quality

If you’re used to those lousy pool toys or air mattresses that deflate the moment you look at them, know that is is a much higher quality product. This is built more like a stand-up paddle board or the other inflatable products we mentioned above. It’s good stuff.

“The quality of the straps and stitching seems very sturdy and durable along with the clasp to close it,” was another item Michael noted.

Convenience

Essentially the Jaunt is like a dry bag in that you can zipper close the top and then roll it over with a clasp that aids in keeping it air- and water-tight.

“We loved the size and portability of the IceMule Jaunt 15L. While it seems huge, which it is, but was so portable for our beach day. We were able to get several sparkling waters and some snacks in it using two ice packs with plenty of room for more.

The ability to wear it as a back pack is fantastic leaving your hands free for other stuff.”

Conclusions

IceMule makes a good product. I can see it being a great accessory for bicycling or hiking or any other active day. Since it’s a backpack, it leaves your hands free for other things. The build quality is there. Overall a nifty product for the active lifestyle.

Our thanks to our friends Mickey and Michael for testing out the IceMule Jaunt 15L backpack cooler.
