Honest review of Roam America Horseshoe Bend campground in Page, Arizona
We visited Page, Arizona and stayed at the Roam America Horseshoe Bend Campground. The interesting thing about this is that it’s a brand new campground built from the ground up by people who already know and understand campgrounds.
Roam Horseshoe Bend is a new campground within a short drive of one of Page, Arizona’s, more famous features, Horseshoe Bend. The campground has over 200 spaces which consist of finely crushed red rock for parking, and then less finely crushed red rock on the sides.
The spaces are long and spacious and have full hook-ups with 30- and 50-amp service at all the sites.
What I liked
The area immediately around this campground is just beautiful. The views of red rock formations and the gigantic canyon is absolutely something to see. Since this is a less-developed area compared to, say, Sedona, it’s much larger and more spread out, which is also true of this campground.
Sedona feels more compact, whereas Page just has an open feel to it - for now. If the word gets out too much I’m not sure that will remain the case.
One of the things I really appreciated about this campground is the lighting. Or, rather, the lack of lighting. While walking at night didn’t feel dangerous at all, the lack of glaring lights (which would eliminate any chance of seeing the night sky and the stars) was such a breath of fresh air.
There are certainly lights in the campground sufficient for you to be able to see at night but not so intrusive that it spoils the view nor feels like you’re in an operating room trying to get some shut eye. I wish more campgrounds, particularly those with great night sky potential, would understand this.
I’ve never heard Peggy wish for laundry, but she did here as the bath houses incorporate clean, modern washing machines that accept digital and credit card payments.
Not only are there washers and dryers in each of the three laundry facilities but there is a table and chairs in a very clean space with huge windows, allowing you to take in the natural beauty that surrounds this campground. It’s exceptionally well done.
That’s also true of the shower and bath portion of these buildings. Each stall is its own toilet, sink and shower so you can go in and do what you have to do and not feel rushed nor crowded. The room has a nice shower as well as a toilet and sink and everything is in immaculate condition. This is how all RV shower houses should be.
Other facilities
The campground has a large, heated pool which was closed during December while we were there. There is also a large, outdoor gathering area as well as a lobby area with a gift and supplies shop that also has a lounge. The management is preparing to open a walk-up cafe, or snack bar, and even plans to offer pizza delivery when they are up and running.
In many ways this space reminds me of what I would expect in a hotel which is rather nice.
On the grounds is also a large dog park. Currently it’s just fenced, which really is all a dog wants is room to run. Our host Anne Marie said they are considering agility equipment. I think they would do well to add a bench or two for the humans.
Coming soon
Some of the things that hadn’t been finished yet when we visited was a kitchen facility with a walk-up window. The plan is to have lunches and dinners available and the kitchen components were all in place, just not dialed-in yet.
There are also cabins that were just being finished-up when we were there. These are sort of like tiny houses with all the things you’d expect in a tiny house - a full kitchen along with a living room space and a huge king-sized bed. There are also nice bathrooms in each one and each has a full climate control system. Plans call for there to also be decks and outside furniture with these cabins which they were working on while we were there.
We enjoyed out time here so much that we are putting together plans for a gathering in the near future. But don’t wait, Page offers a lot to see and enjoy and the Roam America Horseshoe Bend Campground is the perfect launching place for your adventure here.
