Honest review of the 2023 inTech Terra Magnolia travel trailer
Today’s honest RV review is of the new-for-2023 inTech Terra Magnolia travel trailer. Essentially the Magnolia is the baby brother to the InTech Terra Oasis and I have friends who has one of these. In fact I had a chance to review one two years ago and really liked it so when I got to see one in person it was nice to know that the reality met my own expectations.
Building the inTech Terra
There are a lot of ways to build RVs which we highlighted in an article here. But this trailer is built differently than methods we highlighted in that article. Most RV companies buy steel chassis from one of two manufacturers, Lippert or B-A-L, and then built their RVs on top of that foundation.
There’s really nothing wrong with that method, per se, and both of those providers work closely with a manufacturer to build a chassis to the manufacturer’s specifications.
The way this is built is different from that, though. InTech builds the whole thing from scratch starting with an aluminum chassis and then a welded aluminum cage structure. This entire assembly is all welded together which makes a strong, yet light, total package.
Insulating foam is placed between the aluminum studs and the fiberglass walls are “hung” on this build. There is also a one-piece fiberglass roof that extends from the back bumper to the front cap.
On most trailers this would be something flexible like rubber or PVC but not here. Further, there are no seams along the entire roof although there are holes for things like vents and the air conditioner.
What’s inside
In many ways this is very similar to the larger Terra Oasis starting at the front where there’s a big, big windshield that really opens up the trailer. A U-shaped dinette takes up the entire front space and large windows on either side of the trailer further make the space inviting.
The cushions have been designed to have a slight angle to them to make them more comfortable and it works. The table at the center is on a pole, which isn’t always my favorite way of doing things, but at least it’s designed to be able to swing so that you can let people in and out more easily.
Naturally this also folds down into a larger bed. In fact two adults could sleep here rather comfortably.
There is a TV up front along the road-side wall on a swivel mount and it can be swung out to be comfortably viewed from the dining area. In fact you could put the table down to a bed configuration and have a pretty cozy movie night experience.
Surprisingly spacious cabinets run across the top of the windshield and, since it cants forward, this makes the space surprisingly deeper.
Kitchen in the inTech Terra Magnolia
On the road side is a cabinet for storage that has slide-out shelves that have lips on them so your things don’t go sliding around. Nice touch.
The camp side of the kitchen space features a very large stainless steel sink, two-burner propane stove and a convection microwave mounted below the counter. With so many RVers telling me that some members of the family can’t really effectively reach microwaves mounted in upper cabinets I guess this makes a lot of sense.
There is some counter space above the road side cabinets and a bit here, but it is a bit limited.
I kind of wish the table in the dining area were mounted on a set of legs that allowed it to be free-floating and also raised to counter height as well as be used as a basis for the bed. This would completely eliminate the shortage of prep space.
You also have the option of an outside kitchen which consists of a flat-top griddle on a drawer-style slide at the back of the trailer. To this you can also add a 12 volt cooler-style refrigerator.
There is a spray port as well for pressurized water but it’s just cold water.
The bathroom in the inTech Terra Magnolia
Like its larger brother, the Magnolia features a wet bath which can be a deal breaker for some buyers. On a positive note the inside of this is all waterproof materials and the door has a seal so that it keeps water and moisture out of the main cabin. However, with no windows in the bathroom this might be a bit too claustrophobic for me.
I would have to try this out for a few days of real use to see if I could deal with it.
While on the subject of deal breakers, some might also be surprised that there’s no sink in here even though there is a kitchen sink just steps away. The idea of using the kitchen sink to wash your hands bugs my wife, but I don’t care. So, see, everybody has their own ideas.
Bedroom in the inTech Terra Magnolia
Another polarizing thing about this trailer is the bed space. While the larger Terra Oasis has a walk-around queen-sized bed, this one has a queen-sized bed in the corner. That means someone has to climb over someone if they get up earlier, or in the middle of the night.
For some this, too, can be a deal breaker and there is the larger Terra Oasis if it is. But this is also how they got essentially the same functionality into a shorter overall length.
I like that they put the climate controls in the bedroom and there is also a high-performance vent fan for those cooler evenings here as well as one over the dinette.
They’ve also done a unique job with the air conditioning where there are ducts at the front and back of a lowered ceiling section where air is directed into the bedroom and dining area. This works really well.
Boondocking and travel access
This trailer has no slides so mid-journey access to the whole interior is no problem.
As for boondocking there are two packages that might be worth considering. The first is a solar package that incorporates 400 watts of solar on the roof and 200 amp-hours of lithium battery storage. In a video they claimed that this system can operate the air conditioner for up to four hours, and I don’t doubt that claim.
One of the nifty things about this Norcold 12 volt refrigerator is that it has a low-power night mode which reduces power consumption with the idea that you’re not opening the fridge overnight. Our own Dometic fridge has this functionality and I like it.
There is also a Rover package which adds three inches of height to the suspension as well as a few other features. For some travelers this may make sense too.
Thoughts about the inTech Terra Magnolia
The inTech Terra Oasis was and is one of my go-to favorites in this industry. I like the way they’re built and the way they look. There are a lot of thoughtful details in these trailers that really make them very usable.
There’s also a solid community of owners and dreamers so you can get questions answered.
This smaller version of that trailer makes a lot of sense. Some of the features may be polarizing for some, but that’s why there are choices. Those who might not like the corner bed can move up to the larger Oasis, for example.
Overall I see a trend toward smaller and less expensive offerings by manufacturers and this follows right along that ideology. Compared with others in the field this offers a first-rate build and unique styling. That front living space really makes this trailer feel livable, too.
One thing I was concerned about when I first saw the Oasis was the rather stark cabinet faces used. We’re all so used to wood and fake wood in these things and I was worried that it might feel too stark.
That can be true for some tastes but there’s a company called Spoonflower that makes custom and temporary wallpapers. If the decor isn’t to your liking you could also employ something from them to make it more to your liking. The beauty of this is that these products can also be easily removed so you could quite literally decorate this trailer for the season if that’s your style.
Overall a really well made offering with good features.
