Sometimes the adventures come to us
We have been home for a few days, but the adventures have continued because we’ve had visitors.
Home habits
Sunday morning I got up and enjoyed the beautiful weather on the screen porch, watching hot air balloons float through the sky and waking up with my first cup of coffee.
Once I was ready to get moving, we finished emptying the bed of the truck and putting things away from our trip.
Flated Topper Twins
Our friends Rex and Dee (father/daughter) are traveling across the country, camping in their pickup with a Flated truck bed topper. Dee set up some platforms and air mattresses so they have comfortable beds for sleeping. They have room for storage under the beds, inside the cab, and on a rack on the back of the truck. They also have a nice tailgate ladder. We have been considering getting a tailgate ladder and now that I saw theirs, I’m more convinced than ever.
Dee backed up to our truck for a Flated Topper Twins photo.
We are more excited now to be planning to tent camp this summer, seeing how well Dee organized the truck bed.
Friends about town
Dee and Rex arrived kind of late Sunday night, so we had a couple beers and hit the sack. On Monday they did some site-seeing and visiting friends that had moved to Albuquerque several years ago.
We got some work done in the office. Then we made two water runs so we would be full enough to make it through a couple weeks. We will be gone for a short while again, so we won’t have to worry about having water as soon as we get home.
El Pinto
In the evening we took them to El Pinto Restaurant & Cantina. It’s a favorite in Albuquerque. In fact, as we were waiting for our table, I noticed friends that we met at the South Llano River Mini Lite rally in March. I first saw Beth and Linda and then Dan and Tony came out of the bar. As a reminder, Dan and Tony made the Sticky Piggy Bread at the rally. We knew that they had been in the area but didn’t know they were still here. We took a quick reunion selfie, then left them to their party while we were taken to our table.
What fun it is to see friends, and especially friends you didn’t expect to see!
When we got home we were treated to a lovely rainbow. We didn’t get any significant rain though.
All alone
Dee and Rex left on Tuesday morning. We got our podcast recorded and edited. We didn’t even leave the property, though we might have gone out to the garage. Maybe. It was hot and I was perfectly content to stay indoors with the air conditioning.
Another visitor
Today, my sister Kathy arrived. She will stay with us tonight, then we will caravan to Sedona tomorrow.
Kathy arrived around noon, and it’s a good thing she warned me or I would still be sitting in my pajamas staring at the screen. As it was, I managed to get showered and dressed but not much else.
Us about town
We needed to do some shopping, and we were all hungry. There is a new Raising Cane’s in town so we figured we would try it. It was ok. My curiosity is satisfied and I don’t feel a huge need to go again. It was built brand new right next door to a Chick-fil-A, which is another chicken restaurant that I can take or leave.
After lunch we went to Costco. We needed supplies for our trip to Sedona. When we are with extended family, like we will be this week, we all take a turn at making dinner for the whole group. We are making lemon pepper chicken, broccoli salad, cheesy cornbread, and Micki’s Fruit Fluff for dessert. I’ll share pictures and recipes whatever day we are scheduled to cook.
We looked at Costco, but didn’t find any twin size air mattresses. So, our next stop was Cabelas. We bought two air mattresses to use on our cots. We will want them when we tent camp. For tonight, it’s Kathy’s bed in my office.
One more grocery stop was needed then we made it home and Kathy and I started dinner. Tony wrote a review and got the rest of the podcast work done. We had pork loin, broccoli, and roasted potatoes. It was much better than our lunch.
Long days, early nights
It’s ben a busy day and we have a long drive tomorrow. I better get out of this office so Kathy can go to bed.
