Two Days in One
When we don’t travel and we work all day, it’s hard to make an interesting post. That’s mostly what we did yesterday and today, so I’ve combined the two.
Monday
We had a meeting at 2:00 so we didn’t want to get too involved with anything that might make us late.
We also wanted to be as close to finishing our editing as possible, as we would not have much time over the next couple of days. We did manage to both finish what we wanted to, so we felt very good.
We headed out early enough to grab a cold brew and we were early to the meeting. We sat in the truck, staring at our phones, until time to go inside.
When we got back to camp, Tony put some veggie tots in the Omnia stovetop oven, and fried the last of the boudin that we brought home from Louisiana. We had salad as well, and shared the last biscuit from Cracker Barrel the night before.
Cocktail?
I finally had that cocktail that a lot of people suggested after I bonked my head setting up on Saturday. Tony had purchased some Bubly waters some time ago, and was not a fan of the orange cream flavor. So it languished in the fridge waiting for someone to be thirsty enough to drink it.
I had remembered a drink from my past called a fuzzy navel. I didn’t remember much; only that it was peach and orange. The next time we were shopping, I looked for a small (airline) bottle of peach something. I wound up with peach lemonade vodka. It’s the closest I could find.
So Monday evening I put some ice cubes in our Silipint cups, split the vodka, and split the fizzy water. I figured I’d call my concoction a Fizzy Navel. Now, perhaps if it was just peach vodka, and just orange water, it would have been better. But I think with the lemon and cream flavors added into the mix, it was - well, it was ok. It was cold and fizzy. It was not, however, the tropical magic I had imagined.
Tuesday
Tony got up early and left for his assignment. I’ll help him tomorrow. Today I got to spend shopping with friends!
Girl Campers Deanne and Sue came by. We started our day with “Amish Crack” caramel cinnamon donuts from Rise and Roll in Middlebury. Tony also started his day at the Rise and Roll in Elkhart. Then we wandered over to the Shipshewana Trading Place Flea Market. It’s only open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so I’m glad we were able to coordinate the meet-up!
Flea Market
We made a point of starting at the far end, and working our way through every aisle of the flea market. Deanne is always on the lookout for antiques, and there was a fair selection today. Shipshewana has several vendors who are Amish, as well as a diverse range of vendors from all over the world. There are hundreds of vendors selling everything from paper plates to lawn furniture, home decor to honey, clothing to tools, antiques, and everything in between.
I bought a couple little trinkets but we are trying not to add to the load of things we have to remove from the trailer when it gets repaired, so I did’t buy much. I did have to pick up a new hat because the only sun hat I have on this trip, was in the truck 25 miles away!
There was a booth with little wooden signs for 50 cents and a dollar. I found a new headboard sign. We used to have a decal that said “always kiss me goodnight” and this was close enough with “kiss me goodnight.” It’s really compact, and it will decorate the window sill over the bed.
I also got some re-freezable ice that we can pop into our water bottles to keep our water cold. I’ll have to test time tomorrow to find out how long they last; they are in the freezer now. At the same booth, I got a little gadget for behind the kitchen sink to keep splashes from the outer-top.
We finished our rounds, and walked back to the travel trailer. Deanne and Sue headed out, and I reheated the leftovers from last night for my lunch.
A little more shopping
I sat outside and rested for a while, then decided I really wanted two more of those water ice thingies. So, I headed back over the the flea market. I hoped to find them at a different booth, closer to camp, but that was not to be. I had to go all the way back to the very first corner where I started out!
I figured I had walked off enough calories to deserve a fried pie. I went back to camp and poured some iced coffee to go with it.
Laundry
When I did laundry on Sunday, I only had enough quarters to finish two loads. So I gathered up the rest of what needed washing, and headed over to the laundry room. It actually took two trips, though when I was all done I managed to bring it all back in one trip. I was tired of walking!
I took full advantage of the recliners in the laundry room. They were a lot more comfortable than sitting at the table in folding chair.
Dinner
Tony texted when he was ready to head home from Elkhart. We had taken steaks out for dinner, but he was in the mood for onions and gyro meat. That sounded good to me, so I got started on that when I got back from the laundry room. I also microwaved some frozen asparagus spears. Those did not impress me, and I don’t think I’ll want to buy them again. They were full stalks, including way too far down the stock that was like wood and impossible to eat. And they got mushy before they even completely thawed. The onion and gyro was really tasty, though.
More Treats
Apparently, this is a total cheat day. We were craving ice cream, so we took a trip back to Vanilla Bean Creamery for an after-dinner treat. We liked the flavors we had the other night and wanted to try something else. We picked a flight of four flavors and tried vanilla bean, blueberry cheesecake, butter brickle, and a favorite from last time: Amish peanut butter. Yum!
