Mark Ferrell

Welcome to the weekly podcast, all about turning the great American RV adventure into Stressless camping. Each week we explore tips, tricks, ideas, and destinations, and talk to the happiest campers in the RV world. Pull up a seat at the campfire as we enjoy some Stressless camping.

Peggy Barthel

Um, you're all the way in the office and I'm over here in the kitchen, so I can't tell. Are you ready? Yes,

Tony Barthel

I am. Okay. Wait, I can see you <laugh>. Oh,

Peggy Barthel

Right. They're not really that far away.

Tony Barthel

<laugh> <laugh>.

Peggy Barthel

Well, hey folks. I'm Peggy.

Tony Barthel

I'm Tony.

Peggy Barthel

And we are two RV industry veterans who traveled part-time

Tony Barthel

And a small trailer, which is where we are right now. That's

Peggy Barthel

Right. And we are looking to share big adventures and help you with great tips, tricks, and discounts.

Tony Barthel

Indeed, indeed.

Peggy Barthel

I wanna real quick pop in with something that's really not camping related at all. Nope. But congratulations to the El Segundo Little League. We used to live in El Segundo and we're

Tony Barthel

The sewer Beats de Sea. Yeah.

Peggy Barthel

And we are really pleased for them that they are now the world champions. Oh,

Tony Barthel

I thought they were heading to the championship.

Peggy Barthel

No, it says California wins Little League World Series Champ

Tony Barthel

Championship. They won. Well see. Shows you what I know. Yeah. Well Hot diggity dog.

Peggy Barthel

Hot diggity. Anyway, I also have a story that I got permission from the author Nanette to share this. It was a comment in a post in the last few days and Facebook, and I just thought it was terrific. So someone was asking about, you know, is it rude to go next door and borrow a cup of sugar or whatever? Something like that. <laugh>.

Tony Barthel

And some campgrounds don't even have to go outside your camper to do that.

Peggy Barthel

It's, but Nanette said, I've given items to fellow campers many times. My favorite is an older gentleman was in need of an onion for his just caught trout. I gave him the onion and he insisted I take a salmon filet. It fed all three of us. Hubby laughs about the time I caught a salmon with an onion <laugh>

Tony Barthel

Salmon chanted, evening

Peggy Barthel

<laugh>. So I just thought that was cute. And you know, a reminder that campgrounds are nice, fun places to be.

Tony Barthel

Indeed they are. Hey, we are giving stuff away. Yeah.

Peggy Barthel

We're nice neighbors to have. Well,

Tony Barthel

<laugh>, I hope so.

Peggy Barthel

And I do have an onion by the way, if you just cut a trout and eat to borrow.

Tony Barthel

Hey, there you go. <laugh> by the way, I, I'm gonna tell a story on myself before we tell a story on ourselves. Okay. We were at a campground several nights ago and I saw a brand new Casita pull in and two ladies hopped out and they were you, you know, okay. I knew it was brand new 'cause it had paper plates still on it. And you know how you can tell when somebody is new? 'cause they're kind of looking at all the new stuff they bought and figuring out where it goes. And I went over and I said, Hey, if you guys need any assistance or have any questions, I give classes and I do all this stuff.

Tony Barthel

And boy, they looked at me like, dude, step side, get away. Get away from us in my exuberance to be a helpful person. It was clear by their body language that they wanted nothing to do with me.

Peggy Barthel

Well, I hope that they did well and had no problems.

Tony Barthel

I saw no fires and you know, congratulations on your new camper. And uh, hope I didn't protrude too much <laugh> because they were having none of it. Anyway. Anyway.

Peggy Barthel

More about the stuff we're giving away. Yeah.

Tony Barthel

So if you have not yet signed up for our once a week Stressless camping email updates and you would like to do so, remember, no spam, no nothing other than just kind of updates from us. We are giving away a air gear tire changing kit to somebody who signs up for our newsletter in August or September. And I have a full story about the air gear tire changing kit@stresslesscamping.com.

Tony Barthel

But it may surprise you to know that you may not have all the tools you need to change the tire in your towable RV travel trailer, fifth wheel, whatever you happen to prefer.

Peggy Barthel

Isn't it the same as my tire kit for my pickup?

Tony Barthel

It may or may not be. And of course the smartest thing would be not what I did. And that's to find out for yourself. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. But this is a great kit from our friends at Air Gear. And I am gonna give someone body this kit who signs up in August and September and I have a full article about the kit@stresslesscamping.com. It includes pretty much everything you'd need to change a tire, including something we should all have as towable RV owners, A torque wrench.

Tony Barthel

Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, there's a breaker bar, a couple of adapters, tire pressure gauge a vest. And in typical air gear fashion, it all comes in a fancy bag. Right. So it's a nice convenient thing. You know, if you do happen to break down on the side of the road, at least everything's all in one spot. And there's also how to jack up your tire on your trailer in that article. So, checked out the article, sign up for the email newsletter and happy camping to you.

Peggy Barthel

And Air Gear is not just for tire changing kits. Oh gosh. No. Air gear started out as an Airstream supplier. But so many things, I mean, there are a couple things probably that other brands aren't able to use because of just the way that air streams are built. But we have air gear tire changing kit. We have a sand free mat that we bought through air

Tony Barthel

Gear. Oh. Which is outstanding. I mean, it has really proven useful on this trip.

Peggy Barthel

Yeah, it has. Oh,

Tony Barthel

They're hoses.

Peggy Barthel

Yeah. The water hoses that we use are amazing. They coil up perfectly every time they stretch out to I, I don't know if it's 20 or 25 feet or something. And then they coil up and two of 'em fit in a little bag together perfectly. And they just have some really, really fantastic things. Not just tire changing kit, but all sorts of things that are good for all campers. So check out air gear and as Tony said, sign up for our newsletter so that you are in the drawing for the tire changing

Tony Barthel

Kit. One of the things I can say is, rich and Cheryl who own the air gear store really take their time to find things that just work. So they don't just list a whole bunch of products. The things that they sell are high quality and you can find a link to them. There'll be a link in the show notes here, and there's a link in our Stressless Camping Deals and Discount section. But they just have good stuff when they list something, it's usually a really good, something

Peggy Barthel

As a fun aside, I guess. Fun. It just started to rain again.

Tony Barthel

Wow. Pure Michigan.

Peggy Barthel

And I know that that sand free mat outside is built in such a way that the water is getting to the lawn and like the air. And I don't know the sun because when we used it for 10 days when we were at the Frog rally and I picked it up, the grass couldn't tell that there had been a mat over it. You know, a lot of times if you put something down for two or three days, it kills the grass below it. And that sand free mat was not harming the grass at all. Well,

Tony Barthel

And also it's nice because it just picks up and you shake it out and it's clean. Right. It's a, yeah. Again, another example of something from the Air Gear store that we have that we really, really like. Yep. So yeah, sand free mats. Another thing,

Peggy Barthel

Speaking of things that we really, really, really, really like <laugh>, we also have some items that we've bought from Lippert. And while we were at the Frog Rally, we got to talk to Sean from Lippert. We did it as a live. And so again, that kind of warning that the sound quality may not be exactly up to par because this is recorded from a live and there might be a little choppiness. 'cause when we went off on tangents, I took that out. <laugh>

Tony Barthel

What?

Peggy Barthel

So that we'd, because otherwise it would be a one hour episode. Well, I mean, this would be a, a one hour and a half episode <laugh> if I left the whole hour of live in there. So anyway, we are gonna talk to Sean about some products and some services from Lippert. So let's hear from Sean right now.

Tony Barthel

Welcome everybody. We are back live from Frog. I'm Tony Bartell from Stressless Camping. And my co

Speaker 5

I am Peggy Artell from Stressless Camping. And our guest.

Chan from Lippert

And I'm Sean Young from Libert

Tony Barthel

And we did some shopping here at the Lipper booth today. We haven't made a purchase yet, but we will. We've been making

Speaker 5

Our shopping list. Yeah.

Tony Barthel

We we're kinda like, the way we do things is we're like, nah, we don't need one of those. Wow. That thing's really cool. Well, it might

Speaker 5

Be good. Get well, do you wanna get, well maybe. We'll, let's think. Oh, let's get it. Yeah. <laugh>.

Tony Barthel

Yeah, so, so today for example, we saw, we've been eyeing, they have an octagonal, one of those really easy to put up tents. Gazebo the screen. Yeah. The GA gazebo, the screen gazebo. And if there was ever a test of that thing in the weather, it got it today and it passed with flying colors. Yeah. Yeah. So that was, that was pretty great. We have a few other things we would like to share. Sean,

Speaker 5

What do you wanna tell us about First

Chan from Lippert

We can start off with the chairs.

Tony Barthel

If you think of Lipper, you probably think of the chassis. If you're on a towable or you think of the slide mechanism or the suspension, or now with Furion you might think of your air conditioner or your refrigerator or your appliance, other appliances. And you may not realize Lipper has a whole collection of stuff you can buy from the RV industry experience. For example, a few years ago, being who I am, I ran my awning into a tree and I called Lippert.

Tony Barthel

And the lady I spoke with was so patient and knowledgeable. And we got not just an awning, but we got the smart arm. And that was nice. So I encourage everybody to run your trailers into their feet. <laugh>, wreck your awning, maybe not, and then buy a new one. Or maybe just buy a new,

Speaker 5

Maybe just buy a new one without the hassle.

Tony Barthel

But we were talking about chairs.

Chan from Lippert

Yeah, we're talking about chairs. And so Lipper has a new, I think you used the technical term stuff. Yeah. That's the proper term. <laugh>. Yeah. But we have a whole line of stuff and normally referred to it as outdoor lifestyle furniture. Oh. You see a lot of things within Libert that are inside the rv. The line of chairs that we have are, uh, like bag chairs. So they're camping chairs, easily movable. And, and you can take 'em different places. Soccer games and such as as well. They can fold up easily. They're heavy duty. And we have an array of colors, you know, I say an array too. <laugh>, well, array and sand, you know, pretty much

Speaker 5

They do feel good to sit in. They're, you know, like sometimes at our size mm-hmm. <affirmative>, sometimes we sit in a chair and think, I better only halfway sit 'cause this is gonna collapse under me. And that is certainly not the case with these chairs.

Chan from Lippert

So we have some chairs that are rated between three to 500 pounds. Wow. I mean, they're solid chairs, right? Yeah. Pretty much. You can sit in any of the chairs that you want to and they just feel great. They're padded, some of 'em are more padded than others, but they <laugh> offer a lot of support. Not only do the office support, the frames are still, they're powder coated. And so they'll hold up a little bit better.

Tony Barthel

You also have propane sensors Yes. That just magnetically go on the bottom of the tank. And those things, they're fantastic. Yes. I love those. What do you love

Chan from Lippert

About 'em?

Tony Barthel

They just work. It's right. You're in your RV and you're like, Hey, do I have any propane <laugh>? Yes. And it's, it's 1% increments. And so you can see, yes, tank one is full. And now I know why the heater's not working. 'cause Tank two is not, tank

Speaker 5

Two has 3%. There's

Chan from Lippert

Tank three.

Speaker 5

I mean,

Tony Barthel

It's just, it's such a logical thing because otherwise you have to pour boiling water over the tank. And that's a whole not thing. There's always tricks to know. Yeah. Or it's just take your phone out, it's just so easy. Yeah. And go on your one control app and you see, oh, I've got, you know, I, I need to fill that propane. So,

Speaker 5

And they're installed just by a magnet. So if you change tanks or whatever, or you know, you send it out to be filled and you don't want that to go with it, you just pop the magnet off and put it back on and it comes back. So, right.

Tony Barthel

Yeah. It's a

Speaker 5

Very

Tony Barthel

Secure, it's a, it's a good thing. And we also have the sensors that you put in your refrigerator and freezer. Yep.

Chan from Lippert

Mm-hmm. <affirmative> temperature sensors. Yeah.

Tony Barthel

Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Those are, those are also nifty. Yeah. So, uh, in addition, they, so they make a lot of cool stuff. And we had some other goodies.

Chan from Lippert

How about the, uh, FURION tracker? Yeah.

Tony Barthel

I think that's big surprise. And it's something I didn't know that Lippert had.

Chan from Lippert

It's, it's fairly new portability for one, and just being able to charge your things. Right. Your phone. Yeah. Uh, if you're going off grid, it's important to have something because people still wanna be in touch. Right. Uh, to some extent. So, but we offer three different models. A thousand watt, 500 and 300. When you run 'em down, they take about, uh, overnight to charge. Okay. And you get back going again for the whole day.

Tony Barthel

Okay. So here are my criteria on liking this type of gadget. Standard connectors. So this, if you have solar panels, you can charge with that. I know some of these portable power stations have proprietary connectors. I like standard because you can mix and match. Right. The outlets all have a place. If you have a grounded outlet that works, and look, you have a, uh, high end and standard output, U S B C two and two, traditional U S B and the cigarette lighter, they don't even call it that anymore.

Tony Barthel

I don't know what that's called. Power pour. Yeah. DC So pretty neat. Mike and I were talking about these type of power stations as not just good for camping, but also for emergencies. You know, power goes off. Yeah. Yeah. If you are an advocate or a fan of boondocking, which Peggy and I are

Speaker 5

These things to come in really super handy for those little things. And we, you all know we don't use a coffee maker, so we don't need it for that. Well, we use our phones constantly. Right. So <laugh>,

Tony Barthel

So that'll charge your phone. That'll charge.

Speaker 5

We need a phone charger or running the star link.

Tony Barthel

Yeah. So that's the thing, right? I was talking about a 12 volt starlink system. There it is. Right. You plug your starlink into that. And even some RVs of course, have inverters, but if it's a larger inverter, you're consuming a fair amount of your battery power with just the inverter. And having something like that, now you can run your starlink or you can charge your portable devices, or, or

Speaker 5

You can make your coffee.

Tony Barthel

Or you could make your coffee, or you could blow dry your, oh, probably not.

Chan from Lippert

Yeah. And it's nice too. So like, not having a trip hazard, running extension cord to your chair. Right. So it's on your table and now you can charge your, with your charge cord into there. How about the Thomas Payne mattress?

Tony Barthel

Oh. So, okay. So if you bought an rv, what was probably the first thing you swapped?

Speaker 5

<laugh>. Yeah,

Chan from Lippert

I agree. This is a popular item, right?

Tony Barthel

Yeah. Almost invariably the mattress is terrible. Yeah. Yeah. But then you're, you're thinking, well, I'd like to replace the mattress, but it's a short queen. Or it maybe folds or there's all these different things where RV mattresses may not be the same size.

Chan from Lippert

Correct. Yeah. Yeah.

Tony Barthel

So

Chan from Lippert

In Lipper's world, we have the Thomas Payne mattress. It is a foam mattress. We do offer four different sizes. Uh, you touched on those. The king, narrow king, short queen, and regular queen. Those standard sizes and 10 inches of memory foam. So you're talking about that much.

Tony Barthel

Wow. Yeah.

Chan from Lippert

So nine inches of the, the main part. And there's an inch of the charcoal infused cooling gel on top. Oh, okay. So you'll sleep a little bit cooler firmness. I would say it's about a nine, eight and a half, nine. It's firm. What I've noticed is that older folks, I mean, I say older, but that can be any, you know, span of time. Right, right. I'm older, but I do love the Thomas pain mattress. It sleeps really nice. And there's also a washable removable cover.

Tony Barthel

Interesting. Okay. You can do that. That's a, huh. That's, that's nice. That's different. I like that. So last year we got to go to the factory, to your plant. That makes them. Yes. And with the furniture factory, which first of all, we have a story as stress us camping about that. It is fascinating fast. It's, it is a huge operation. Yeah. That makes all kinds of furnishing.

Speaker 5

That was my, my request. Like we got to see previously the Cassie plant. Yes. And the welding shop and that. And I said, can we go softer <laugh>? I wanna see couches and cushions and mattresses.

Tony Barthel

Those Thomas Paine mattresses. In fact, I think both Kim and Ryan said they have them at their house. Oh, they like them so much that they

Chan from Lippert

Do. Yeah. One more note on the Thomas Payne mattress in the lower 48, once you order through us, it's free shipping.

Tony Barthel

Oh. Oh, wow.

Chan from Lippert

So that'll save you a ton of cash. Yeah, yeah.

Tony Barthel

When we've called the, where you can buy the product online. Sure. The people are so knowledgeable and just friendly and helpful. It's not, you know, a lot of times you call for something and it's like, like, boy, you really don't care, do you? But that's never been true. When we called Lipper for anything. There's a bunch of cool stuff. And we're gonna get to that too. This is something I had no idea that you guys made. Oh, this

Speaker 5

On this is in my basket.

Tony Barthel

Yeah. Do you ever, you know those cartoon characters where they see something and they're like, Ooh, ooh, good. That was when you told us about this and we saw this. Goodness, my eyes popped out. Yeah. It was like up. Gotta have, you know, we all go camping and there's two things. I think we all deal with strange air and strange water if you camp. Well, they say the average person only camps 72 miles from home. But it's probably not that. But if you're like us, yeah. It's probably that's the same err in sea water. But you're like us, we travel all over the place.

Tony Barthel

And like my allergies here are just going off the charts. I'm used to New Mexico where there's, you know, we have tumbleweeds and rabbits. Another thing we all deal with is strange water. Right. You don't know how old a campground's water system is. Right. Or even the water in your fresh tank. Right. You might think, oh, I'm just gonna drink outta my fresh tank. Well, so this is a water filtration system that you install, like under the sink of your Correct rv or even in your house.

Chan from Lippert

Yeah. In your house. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>.

Tony Barthel

So it operates on 12 pole. Yeah. You take the connection to the faucet off and run it into the filter. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> and then out from the filter through

Chan from Lippert

The water spigot, for example, like some people have a soap dispenser they don't use, and they will remove that and put the faucet there.

Tony Barthel

So it's it's own dedicated faucet. Dedicated faucet. So then you're not wasting filtered water on washing dishes. Right, right,

Chan from Lippert

Right. It's about two liters or about a half a gallon per minute. It's good. Up to, uh, 33,000 gallons Wow. Of water. So. Wow.

Tony Barthel

Yeah. And I mean, it's a lot of water. A concern of yours is plastic water bottles That's gone. It's over. You can use your

Speaker 5

Reusable tumblers that you can buy@stresslesscamping.com.

Tony Barthel

Wow. That's whoa plug. That's right. And I believe we have one more. Yeah.

Chan from Lippert

Suspension just brakes. I've used this analogy more than once. I'm a kind of a meat and potatoes guy. So I think camping starts with having the right equipment to go down the road. Right. And so it's really important to have good tires. Oh yeah. Good suspension. And then also good brakes. Right. Stopping power is everything. My favorite trailer to toe is the one with this brakes. Oh, oh Yeah. 'cause I'm able to stop. So the, the stopping power is increased by, you know, 40% if not more. Just the confidence that it gives you when you know, you, you can stop is an amazing feeling.

Tony Barthel

Drum breaks if you run through a puddle mm-hmm. <affirmative>, there's a chance that water can get in. The drum, drum breaks is what probably the vast majority of towable RVs have. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. But you never find any, like even the cheapest car you buy nowadays will have disc brakes. Sure. So that's an upgrade you guys offer is disc brakes.

Chan from Lippert

We can install 'em here in Goshen, Indiana. If you don't get it through us, get it through somebody. And, and I mainly push that for people that travel a lot. Right. Full-timers, obviously, you know, on towables fifth wheels and travel trailers. But it's just a peace of mind and a safety thing because there are a lot of drivers out there that don't know how to drive <laugh>. I don't you've ever encountered

Tony Barthel

No. I

Chan from Lippert

Mean, they're out there.

Speaker 5

Yeah.

Chan from Lippert

And they're not marked.

Tony Barthel

I was at a workshop over the past few days and they described breaking distances and with disc breaks it was something like half the distance. So it was a significant Yeah. Improvement. Right. And Lippert has developed antilock breaking for trailer.

Chan from Lippert

Yes.

Speaker 5

Was that all the products that we wanted to make? I think so that

Chan from Lippert

We had the list.

Speaker 5

Of course there is like hundreds of products. Yeah. Yeah. Don't get us wrong. This is not,

Tony Barthel

But this is, this is your sampler platter, sample

Chan from Lippert

Tip of the iceberg type of deal. Yes.

Tony Barthel

But one of the ways that you keep making changes and improvements is listening. Is there like a group that you listen to?

Chan from Lippert

So that brings me to like, my bonus products

Tony Barthel

<laugh>. Right. It's,

Chan from Lippert

So that's our Lipper Scouts. Our Lipper Scouts is a community that's run by Libert. We value your feedback. We, we we've developed to help you. If you're out there and you need help right away, it's an app. As of today, we're just under about 18,000, uh, members. But it, it's somewhere you can go where you're pulling, let's say pulling into a campground at 10 o'clock at night and you just want to go to bed, but you, your leveling is acting up and you don't know why a light is flashing. Right. Right. And so you can get on the Lipper Communities app under scouts for RVs, and post, Hey, you know what? I've got a so-and-so RV that's doing this.

Chan from Lippert

Can anyone assist me? Right. Yeah. And, and nine times out of 10, if not 10 out of 10, someone's gonna be up saying, Hey Tony, you need to go do this. Yeah. Right.

Speaker 5

Here's how manual

Chan from Lippert

Load and do this. Right. Here's how you can fix it. And there are people that are very educated about this process and, and they're willing to help you because, you know, we're a tight-knit community.

Tony Barthel

You can provide feedback on the products too. Yeah.

Chan from Lippert

Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yeah. And you can give your opinions. You can share stories, whatever you want. Yeah.

Tony Barthel

It's pretty cool. We have a video.

Speaker 7

RVing is very personal to me. It's about how I spend my time, my space, uh, sharing what I love.

Speaker 7

My name is Joe Gross. I am from Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Uh, tried to be there as little as possible because I love to rv. Uh, been a scout about a year and a half now. Just right after the inception. Uh, when I got involved, there were about, oh, 2,500 scouts. I can remember us celebrating every time we racked off another thousand new members when we hit 5,000. There was a celebration, 10,000 when there was a celebration. And we're now over 17,000 scouts.

Speaker 7

Strong RVing is very personal to me. It's about how I spend my time, my space, uh, sharing what I love. But I got something from Scouts I never expected. It was just a complete shock. I've grown a whole new group of friends and some of them I've gotten very close to, uh, almost like family. Uh, and not just from the Scouts, but from the scouts leadership.

Speaker 7

I mean, this is way more than just r viewers helping r viewers trying to make a better experience, which ultimately is the mission. It was kind of a shock to me and a very pleasant surprise as an rvr. And I don't care if it's your very first RV that you spent $9,995 for the corner special, or you've got a $1.5 million motor coach, everybody's gonna encounter a problem. And this is a single space you can go to that someone's gonna do their best to help you.

Speaker 7

And if they can't get an answer, oh, wait a minute. It's the Lippert Scouts community.

Speaker 7

There's factory people there to assist everybody. It's, it's hard to explain. I mean, I really believe in my heart of hearts, it starts from the leadership down and the way the group is structured and the, the, the total climate of the group. It just has a different feel. You can go there, you can feel comfortable. You don't have to worry about anybody laughing at you, picking at you, calling you ugly names, telling you you're stupid because you ask a question because there is no stupid question.

Speaker 7

It, it's about improving the experience and they mean it, it's not just a slogan. And, and that means a lot to me, or I wouldn't be a part of it.

Speaker 5

Well spoken. Yeah.

Tony Barthel

And you have gatherings with the scouts and such? Yeah, we do. Yeah. Yeah. It's called the Deliberate Getaway <laugh>. Nice. And where are when is that? This one's in September. Yeah. It's gonna be in

Speaker 5

Idaho. Another thing that we've over, we've overscheduled ourselves in <crosstalk> <laugh>, but one of these days. Yeah,

Tony Barthel

Absolutely. But it, I mean, it just gives you kind of an idea of the breadth of product and just the, the way you guys are listening to us is really impressive. We went to the RV Owner school. That's right. Another thing we're, that's what

Speaker 5

We did last year.

Tony Barthel

Yeah. We did that last year. And that was just terrific. And it helps you, I've always said, you're gonna have a better RVing experience. The more you know, the more Stressless your RVing experience is gonna be. That's plug number two. Yeah. <laugh>. Um, but in all seriousness, it's true. And so the fact that you offer these schools for people to come and learn from the people who make this stuff mm-hmm. <affirmative>, that's the bottom. It's, it's very,

Speaker 5

I got to play with electrical circuits. Oh wow. Yeah. Very cool. We learned about how to maintain our slides.

Tony Barthel

Yeah. We learned how to actually adjust it if it gets outta whack. It was just terrific. We got to even have Jason as a guest on our podcast. Oh awesome. A while back. Yeah. The whole attitude of inclusion and the way the team is treated and we see that when we went through the factory tours is super impressive to me. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. So, yep.

Chan from Lippert

Do you know where you can find the schedule for the RV owner school?

Tony Barthel

I do. Not in the

Chan from Lippert

Lipper Communities app.

Speaker 5

Ities app. Hey, we did know that. There's

Chan from Lippert

A lot of stuff there too. Yeah, it's a lot. Yeah.

Tony Barthel

Stuff. It's a free app you can download on your mobile device and absolutely worth getting. Especially for

Speaker 5

Free Lipper community. And by the way, if you own a boat, there's a, yeah, there's our Lipper captain, there's the RV part scouts and the boat captains too. So if you own a boat that has Lipper components, then you wanna join the Lipper community. Lipper community anyway. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. The Lipper Scouts also is a Facebook group. Yeah. And that's where, in addition to the app, then you want to go on that Facebook group and that's where you can communicate and Sure. Learn about when the rallies are And <laugh>

Chan from Lippert

And our rally, our rallies that we attend are also on the communities app. Gives the dates and Yeah. Where we're gonna be at as well. So you can follow us.

Tony Barthel

Yeah. So if you have questions or you need a gazebo or a water filter or a mattress or all kinds of cool stuff. Yeah. Yeah. With that we have covered some pretty cool stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Really appreciate your time. Thank you guys

Chan from Lippert

For having me.

Tony Barthel

Pleasure. Thank you for sharing. Sharing so many Great. Absolutely. Thank you for joining us. Pleasure spending time with you.

Speaker 5

Happy, happy

Tony Barthel

Camp. We're in fairly bummer weather. I get affected by weather more than maybe some people. And this drippy, rainy, dark, cloudy stuff gets under my skin. But

Peggy Barthel

It does make everything really green and nice. And it is gonna go away by noon, so.

Tony Barthel

Well that's good. <laugh> good. It can go bug off. But my point with that is we are also completely off the grid at the moment. This is true. And we, we are running our starlink connection. We are charging our laptops. We are running our 12 volt RV refrigerator. We're charging every phone that we brought. Yeah, we

Peggy Barthel

Are. And my Kindle

Tony Barthel

And even Oh yeah. And your Kindle and my iPad

Peggy Barthel

And the backup battery for the phone chargers that I can't put out in the sun right now. 'cause it isn't one <laugh> because it's

Tony Barthel

Pouring gray, rainy, drizzly, nasty stuff. It'll be done, it'll be done. But the point of that all is we have our power package system, which is a thousand watts of solar and it's a 400 amp power lithium battery and a 3000 watt comba master, which manages the charge controlling battery manager, all of that stuff. And that was all put together by a b, C upfitters. And in our case it was put together and sold as an option in our Rockwood mini light.

Tony Barthel

But if you are solar curious or interested in high performance batteries, that kind of things for RVs, as you know, as a regular listener, every week we kind of share that we really like the way A B, C up outfitters does things. Our friends at A B C F fitters really have a variety of solutions that they provide from just drop in lithium batteries to complete engineered solutions.

Tony Barthel

And you can find them at 5 7 4 2 9 3 9 3 9 9. That's 5 7 4 2 9 3 9 3 9 9. No reason to pull over and write that number down. Look in the show notes@stresslesscamping.com. There's articles and videos about what they can do. Again, just a, a good group of people. In fact, uh, last week we got to see you guys have been so responsive in having upfits done that they have significantly increased their ability to put in systems a much larger new facility with a basketball hoop <laugh>.

Tony Barthel

They're in Indiana. Just a, a neat group of people who do a really super job at a B, C Upfitters. Even with this weather that we've been having, we're still running our trailer just fine now. We did move sites. Yes. As you will see in, Peggy has been doing a super job of daily chronicling of our Michigan trip. And when we got to where we are now, we were in trees and all of that, which I think some people really like in a campground, but we don't because of solar and starlink and all of that.

Tony Barthel

And we found this wide open spot, which has been pretty terrific. Even so with this lousy weather, we're still getting enough charge to run everything and not have to worry. And that's, I think Stressless, can't we?

Peggy Barthel

That's right. As Tony said, I have been writing a daily update on our trip through Michigan. The good days and the bad days. <laugh>. Yeah. The good weather and the bad weather. And one of the days, eight maybe, I don't remember exactly. We took a boat and went over to Mackinac. Mackinac Island. Sorry. I almost said Mackinac, which I know is how it spelled And <laugh>. I know. It's so hard for me to remember how to do it. Right. Especially when we took the Cadillac to Mackinac.

Tony Barthel

Right. Broke my back and wanted

Peggy Barthel

Fudge. And that's a fact. Yeah.

Tony Barthel

There we

Peggy Barthel

Go. And we didn't play hacky sack. That's, anyway, that's a fact. But we did take a jet boat ferry over to Mackinac Island also. Tony pulled some video off of our dash cam and made a video of us crossing the bridge from the mitten to the up. Yeah. And so we can show you that.

Tony Barthel

That's on our socials. It's on our Facebook. Oh, okay. And Instagram. Okay. I may drop it onto the website, but don't count on it. We're <laugh> starting to run out of bandwidth for video there.

Peggy Barthel

Okay. Also, you know, in a couple of those daily posts, I talk about pasties.

Tony Barthel

No pasties.

Peggy Barthel

Oh, pasties. That's right. I don't know what the heck is, it's spelled pasties, but it's pronounced pasties and it's hard to remember, but I know why probably they don't want it to say pasties. 'cause that brings to mind a whole different activity. Yeah. Anyway, <laugh>, we had a really good time on Mackinac Island. We of course we ate fudge and we did some shopping and we took a lot of pictures. And it's

Tony Barthel

Interesting to me, Mackinac Island, the city part is slightly bigger than Catalina Island in southern California. Yeah. But it's kind of the same idea. Right. It's this kind of touristy island where you go and, and on Catalina, I think it's just, Hey, it's an island. I don't remember you wrote in your article how many fudge.

Peggy Barthel

Oh yeah. There's like 17 fudge stores there on like three blocks.

Tony Barthel

<laugh>. Yeah. It's interesting to me how different, 'cause of course our job as people who travel with their stomachs is to taste as much fudge as we possibly can. Yeah. Or whatever the local

Peggy Barthel

Or as much whatever. Pasties or Yeah.

Tony Barthel

Pasties or fudge or beer. Boudan,

Peggy Barthel

<laugh>, boudan.

Tony Barthel

Yeah. And it's amazing how different it is, but also how different the experiences. Some of these places that had fudge were so customer service and friendly and others it was like

Peggy Barthel

They were having, yeah. Do you wanna buy something or get out? Yeah.

Tony Barthel

<laugh>. Yeah. They were not having a good day at work. And it's like, man. Oh man. And I also noticed a lot of foreign nationals, you know, like kids who come over for, for the summer. Yeah.

Peggy Barthel

That we're working.

Tony Barthel

Like I asked one young old young lady, I asked one worker there, where are you from? Because I heard the accent. She said, oh, Romania. That's

Peggy Barthel

Cool. Yeah. So if you wanna know, our favorite was Joanne's Fudge.

Tony Barthel

Yeah. By a significant margin. Right.

Peggy Barthel

They were super, the friendliest, they offered like basically unlimited samples. <laugh>. Yeah.

Tony Barthel

I was just thinking, its

Peggy Barthel

Like we actually said to them like, you're gonna get mad at us. And she's like, oh no, do you wanna sample something else? And that is the one place that we bought fudge as well. Yeah. We liked it really well. I think that it was a super brief experience, but at the hotel that makes Fudge, a lady was standing out on the, like on the sidewalk just handing out samples. And it was really good too. But we didn't go into that hotel to figure out the story on that fudge. So yeah, I would've about that. And we had already bought the Joanne,

Tony Barthel

So that's true. But she was great. There was, she was like a carnival barker. Yeah,

Peggy Barthel

She was. And first

Tony Barthel

She was selling fudge and she

Peggy Barthel

Was selling fudge and then she was selling whatever the dinner special was. Yeah.

Tony Barthel

<laugh>. Yeah. Which I, I don't know, I kinda liked that whole carnival

Peggy Barthel

Atmosphere.

Tony Barthel

Yeah. It was pretty cool. But I have been described as a combination of PT Barnum and Curly Howard, so

Peggy Barthel

That makes sense then. Huh? Jerome

Tony Barthel

Horowitz

Peggy Barthel

One, something to know about Mackinac Island is that they, and you can keep your opinions to yourself, Mr. They do not have any cars or trucks or motorized vehicles. They do have some electric bicycles,

Tony Barthel

But, but you cannot bring your own electric bicycles.

Peggy Barthel

You can't bring your own. There's a like super strict rules, but basically everyone gets around by being pulled on a wagon by a horse or by a bicycle. Yeah.

Tony Barthel

And the pollution from the horse is, there's a guy who takes care of that too. There's

Peggy Barthel

A guy who rides around on his bicycle with a bucket in the back.

Tony Barthel

Yeah. There's so many bicycle rental places on Mackinac Island. And I saw a dude riding a bicycle with like a bucket in the back or it wasn't a bike, it was a trike. And he was towing a bicycle with a flat tire. So even the tow trucks.

Peggy Barthel

That's right. The tow trucks on bicycles there. So it was a fun stop. And there's more about that on the daily posts on our website. And I hope that you are, if you're reading those, I hope you're enjoying them. If you're not reading them <laugh>,

Tony Barthel

Then you <laugh>. No, I don't mean that <laugh>

Peggy Barthel

Go do so yeah,

Tony Barthel

<laugh> duck on it. Share it with your friends. Yeah. Share it with people you don't like, whatever <laugh>.

Peggy Barthel

So I think we've mentioned this, well we certainly mentioned it when we were talking with Sean. We did go ahead and buy the Lippert picnic pop-up gazebo. Indeed

Tony Barthel

We did.

Peggy Barthel

And it is sitting outside getting rained on right now. But I bet if we were sitting out there we would be dry as a bone because that's got a great, you know, it's like a solid lid. It's tent material, right.

Tony Barthel

So yeah, it's a, it's a hexagonal tent.

Peggy Barthel

It's hexagon, it's solid on the top. And then it has five walls that you pull out. You know, you've seen these kind of screen tents with one person can do it. I can't do it 'cause I'm not tall enough to get the middle to go up. But I'm gonna work on figuring that out <laugh>. But we were sitting in there yesterday when it started to rain and even Tony and Bill, who were kind of close to the edges, we're feeling sprinkles on their back. But sprinkles, as long as the rain is coming fairly straight down, it was completely dry inside.

Tony Barthel

And we did buy and

Peggy Barthel

We did buy the sidewalls so we can Velcro the sidewalls on, we could have just popped out and done one, if the rain was coming from one's particular direction, we could have just put a wall on that side to keep the rain from coming in. But it was coming pretty straight down so we didn't have to worry about it. But that picnic pop-up gazebo really is pretty easy to put up. I can almost do it myself if I figure out some kind of a tool to help me reach and kind of push on the roof as the last step. Or perhaps I didn't try to do it by myself the way we did it yesterday by staking it down and then going in and popping the roof.

Peggy Barthel

And

Tony Barthel

I think that's the recommendation.

Peggy Barthel

So that might work. I just didn't, I'm so lazy about staking things down. So.

Tony Barthel

Yeah. And I'm glad that we did stake it down because it's because

Peggy Barthel

It's a little breezy. It's

Tony Barthel

Breezy and and lousy. <laugh> right now.

Peggy Barthel

It's going away. It's going away.

Tony Barthel

I know. But yesterday was great because we

Peggy Barthel

Were, yeah, it was fantastic.

Tony Barthel

We basically sat in that gazebo and got our work done all day. Yep. And we're out there. In fact the chairs are still there. We were out there enjoying just a neat outdoor experience. Yes.

Peggy Barthel

Well, with all this traveling, have you been able to find an RV that you like this week?

Tony Barthel

Yes. We have another world premier this week. The Rockwood mini light 25 15 SS travel trailer. Rockwood has a 25 16 2 5 1 6 which has the kitchen on one end and the bedroom on the other. And that model has the kitchen up front and the bedroom in the back. Well Rockwood turned the tables quite literally right by putting the bedroom on this new 25 15 in the front and the kitchen all the way at the back.

Tony Barthel

Yeah. Some of the neat things, Rockwood is using a new Magic Chef refrigerator for 2024 that opens at either side and it's a brand new design from everything I can tell. And I have really found no good information on this fridge. But I believe it to be specifically designed to be an RV fridge with 12 volt functionality. So variable speed compressor and built-in fence and all the things that our Dometic fridge actually has except our Dometic fridge. The door only opens from one side.

Peggy Barthel

I know

Tony Barthel

How. And that new magic chef

Peggy Barthel

Opens from both old fashioned.

Tony Barthel

So that fridge, the neat thing is it's right at the back door. So this uh, trailer has two doors. That fridge is right at the back door. So you could just open the door, reach in and grab something out of the fridge. And like all Rockwood comes with a flat top griddle. So you could be cooking outside and just grab, I don't know, the steaks or whatever from the fridge or open it from the inside. And it also has theater seats or a couch in the slide and then a dinette over on the capside, which is good.

Tony Barthel

This is a polarizing feature apparently for some it has the bathroom in the middle of the trailer, which bisects the trailer now for Peggy and I. That would be great.

Peggy Barthel

Love it. Yeah.

Tony Barthel

In fact this trailer is, we like it enough that if we were to upgrade, this would probably be where we would go. Mm-hmm <affirmative> because with the bathroom in the middle of the trailer, if somebody's in the back and the well in the front in the bedroom, then if you're in the kitchen stirring about, you're not gonna disturb the bedroom person. Right. And I like that. And it's a nice sized bathroom. Another thing that's new in this trailer is it uses what are called lagoon tables at the theater seats.

Tony Barthel

And what I like about those is you can set the height where you want it and also they swivel around and all of that. So they really accommodate you in a lot of ways. <laugh>, I had said that you could set it so you didn't need a plate and just shovel the food in your mouth. Yeah.

Peggy Barthel

'cause you can put it up kind of high right up to your chin level. Yeah. I mean

Tony Barthel

I'm sure that's kind of not the idea, but

Peggy Barthel

Probably not, you know. But the beauty of it being that high is that it means it's also counter height level that gives the kitchen a little extra counter space. Yeah.

Tony Barthel

Admittedly one challenge of this floor plan is there is very little kitchen counter space, but otherwise, uh, as usual it comes with 200 watts of solar. Now they go, uh, they have a 2000 watt inverter that's standard. So you could run more stuff inside and then you can upgrade to 400 watts of solar. But this one is not one of the models that you can get the power package in. So if that's important then this, this ain't gonna work for you.

Peggy Barthel

Darn it.

Tony Barthel

I know

Peggy Barthel

<laugh>,

Tony Barthel

But otherwise a neat new model from Rockwood. And I think this might be my last Rockwood update for a while. <laugh>, by the way, I am going to open house in Indiana in a few weeks, which is where all the new trailers, all the new RVs are announced. Yes. So, we'll I'll be busy

Peggy Barthel

And you'll have lots of updates for everybody. I

Tony Barthel

Will have.

Peggy Barthel

Well very cool. Thank you. Why

Tony Barthel

Certainly

Peggy Barthel

We are at the point where we review the question of the week from last week. Indeed. And last week's question was what tank treatment do you use? Now when I wrote that, I was thinking product, but the couple of the answers were method. And that is totally legitimate answer too. Hadn't even really kind of thought of it. <laugh> indeed. Once again we had like 30 some odd answers and so I'm gonna tear through them here really quickly. Brian uses lots of water and annual hydro jetting.

Peggy Barthel

Karen uses Happy Camper. Jessica uses Camco. T S t Bill uses Happy Camper. Larry just bought Happy Camper, but he is really flushed with excitement with the <laugh>. Oh

Peggy Barthel

With the Black Tank Flush, which is new to them in their newer rig, which has saved his bacon more than once. And Tony told him he shouldn't be putting bacon down there. Indeed, Mike is a happy camper fan. Gary has used Happy Camper but now is using the Geo method, which is a combination. And I can't give details 'cause I don't know, but look it up, you'll find it. It's a combination of Dawn Dish, soap, Calgon, and Borax. So that is a method rather than a product. Oren, actually I don't, I can't read the whole thing, it's long.

Peggy Barthel

But he does give a good kind of lesson on the difference between a septic system and a black tank. And what it really sort of boils down to is a black tank, things aren't in there really long enough to go through the process that a septic system puts things through. So really what you're using these treatments for is not to process them stuff, but just to keep odors and stuff down. So, and

Tony Barthel

We had spoken with Jeremy King over at Thetford about the science of tank treatments and all of that and podcast episode 1 57, which I thought was really interesting. Yeah. You know, as you go on your RVing journey might be interesting to listen to that because it was, I really thought that was a good episode and some interesting stuff. And we do use that Ford's products in our tanks and we made that decision after speaking with him.

Peggy Barthel

Yep. Mark is very happy with Happy Camper. Mickey is a happy Camper fan, although she did just say, and this again might be Michael, they share an account, so I never know for sure. They just bought some of Matt's RV liquefy and it's working well

Tony Barthel

By the way. I'm going to meet with Matt while I'm at open house. We're gonna try out his product. Matt Foxcroft does Matt's RV reviews and he has, he is known for the space around the toilet. He does the

Peggy Barthel

Prime pooping

Tony Barthel

Position. Prime pooping position. Thank you.

Peggy Barthel

<laugh>. He always sits on the toilets and tests out the space. Yeah.

Tony Barthel

He also now has his own tank treatment, so, we'll we will give that a try. We may even give some away.

Peggy Barthel

Let's see, Steve and Sarah and David use Happy Camper. Dale uses Unique. We didn't have a lot of votes for that and I'm surprised 'cause I, I thought that it was very, very good. Craig uses a lot of water, which is also very important and he is going to switch to liquefied.

Tony Barthel

Matt's selling his stuff.

Peggy Barthel

Tony did put a post to that <inaudible> article in the responses. Karen loves Wale Porta packs and she's the only one that mentioned that and I hadn't heard of it, so I'm gonna check that out. Warren uses RV Digest it or Happy Camper. William, I just wanna thank you for the uh, happily Dancing poo emoji <laugh> gif <laugh>. Kathy uses Happy Camper drop-ins. Larry put some information in there that he learned and it's kind of about the use of the toilet paper. And I have also written that article and Tony linked that article.

Peggy Barthel

Basically our rule is three sheets at a time. So three

Tony Barthel

Sheets to the wind,

Peggy Barthel

Three sheets to the wind, and John uses Unique. So that was our responses. If there's anything in there that seems new and exciting to you, I mean as exciting as that sort of a topic can be, go <laugh>, check out the responses and ask those people for links if you need them. And that is the end of our discussion, I guess for the day. <laugh> for that topic this week. I actually, Tony wanted to know,

Tony Barthel

Do you bring a musical instrument with you camping?

Peggy Barthel

I think the typical answer or the most common answer might be guitar. I've, you know, I've had people camping with guitars my whole life. Oh

Tony Barthel

Yeah, that was, and at the Frog Rally there was a, uh, several people, including

Peggy Barthel

Several

Tony Barthel

People including Tanya from Lipper.

Peggy Barthel

That's right. Super good.

Tony Barthel

Really impressive.

Peggy Barthel

What we've only seen from one person, I was gonna say we've only seen it once, but it's been at both Frog rallies, is there is a man from Canada, I wish I remembered his name. He travels with his bagpipe. Yeah. And he plays every night at Dusk.

Tony Barthel

And remember we were at that F M C A regional rally. Yeah. And there was a dude who had his squeeze box. Yes. And he wrote a song. That's

Peggy Barthel

Right. Did on

Tony Barthel

Our being song, we shared that in our,

Peggy Barthel

We did share that sometime

Tony Barthel

Ago. Facebook page a while back.

Peggy Barthel

So what instruments do you carry? Do you carry accordions or bagpipes?

Tony Barthel

Washboards

Peggy Barthel

Or Washboards or Coons or castanets or <laugh>?

Tony Barthel

<laugh>. Oh yeah. Coon. Why do I, how did I forget that? That's

Peggy Barthel

Right. That is our question of the week. And as usual, you can answer that

Tony Barthel

At our fun and friendly Stressless camping. Wait. At our fun and friendly, newly renamed Stressless campers Facebook group.

Peggy Barthel

Oh, decision has been made.

Tony Barthel

The decision has been made. We are changing the name of our group to Stressless Campers instead of,

Peggy Barthel

Instead of the podcast, camping podcast Facebook group. It'll be a little easier to say. It will maybe not discourage people who aren't podcast listeners because everyone's invited and everyone should camp stress less.

Tony Barthel

Uh, that's what they should do.

Peggy Barthel

Also, of course, we do have that weekly newsletter and if you sign up this month or next August or September, you'll be eligible to possibly win our Air Gear Tire Changing Kit in that newsletter. Of course we have links to stories and videos and podcasts and things that we think will help you get the most out of your RV experience.

Tony Barthel

Just visit our website and it's at the signup form us, either under the hamburger menu, under Contact Us, or you'll probably get a popup at the bottom of the page. I try not to do too many popups 'cause I stink and hate those things.

Peggy Barthel

<laugh>.

Tony Barthel

So there you go. And you'll also find the show notes for this episode

Peggy Barthel

One Note two 18

Tony Barthel

On the podcastPage@stresslesscamping.com.

Peggy Barthel

Also on stressless camping.com. Don't forget, we have deals and discounts for ABC F Fitters and Air gear and Lippert and all <laugh>. Yeah. All kinds of stuff and all kinds of things that you need for your stresses, camping, adventure,

Tony Barthel

And naturally we are in all the social places. But you can start@stressescamping.com, then jump off to all the places that you enjoy being social, like Facebook and Instagram Threads, X X <laugh>, Pinterest, all of that stuff.

Peggy Barthel

And if you don't wanna miss a future episode of the Stressless Camping podcast, it's free. It's free to subscribe on any podcast app. And we are saving you a seat around our virtual campfire. If you're new and don't know this, I'm gonna let you know that a review really, really, really helps us and helps other people find us. It helps the podcast apps know that we are being listened to and they share us more. And so if you haven't had a chance to write a review, we really, really appreciate it when we get new reviews.

Peggy Barthel

And if you have already written a review and you still wanna help, you can share. If you see something that we post on Facebook, you can share that. Or if you see something on the website, there's actually a whole webpage dedicated to helping you know how to share that on those social places so that you can help us get out in front of more eyeballs and Earballs.

Tony Barthel

Earballs. That's right. <laugh>. Well with that, we are gonna go back to rainy Michigan, although Peggy's promises that it'll be sunny later.

Peggy Barthel

It's gonna get sunny in a little

Tony Barthel

Bit. It's been, yeah, I mean the, the good days have really been exceptionally great

Peggy Barthel

Days. Oh, they

Tony Barthel

Have. I mean, yesterday out on the lake on the shipwreck tour, I just absolutely loved it. And they did. If you're ever in, wherever the heck we are in Michigan.

Peggy Barthel

<laugh>. Well, we're in Munising right now.

Tony Barthel

Munising right now. And you have an opportunity to go on that shipwreck tour. Do it. It is fascinating. And they really do an exceptional job.

Peggy Barthel

But there are more than 500 shipwrecks on Lake Superior. So crazy. So I bet any town that's on Lake Superior has a shipwreck tour and you could go on it. But this one that we went on was just super awesome.

Tony Barthel

They did a great job. And one of the shipwrecks that we saw was like an entire in almost intact ship, which was pretty neat. Yeah, it was an old sailing ship. But anyway, that's what we got for you this week. We sincerely appreciate your being here with us. Thank you so much. Thank you for sharing with your friends and most of all,

Peggy Barthel

Happy camping, happy camping.

Mark Ferrell
