Honest review of Valencia Travel Village in Castaic, CA
Today’s honest campground review is for the Valencia Travel Village in Castaic, CA. This is a larger RV park that’s close to some pretty significant reasons to visit the area including amusement park Magic Mountain as well as Lake Castaic. Each of those would be reason enough to come here.
Our reason was that it was a stop on the journey to Quartzsite and was a logical break between long days of travel from our recent adventures into Northern California including our stay at Albion River Campground and Doran Beach Campground.
Valencia Travel Village
Valencia Travel Village offers 303 full hook-up sites along with 78 with partial hook-ups. The company also offers storage for RVs.
This place seems like it was built recently as everything has a fresh, new feel to it. I don’t know when it was built but there is no indication that anything needs maintenance or repair and the entire property has a clean, modern and well-kept feel to it.
We stayed in site B9 which is one of the full hook-up sites. We were able to pull our truck and trailer into the site and, since we were only planning to stay one night, we didn’t bother unhooking the two. I just released the tension on our B&W Continuum hitch and unplugged the seven-pin connector.
Since we planned to be boondocking for the next few days we did the full pump and dump of the tanks.
I will say that the sites are a bit tight but not so much so that we couldn’t extend our slide room. The site was certainly wide enough but it seems that it’s better configured for transitory stays rather than longer term.
Even so, there are clearly some long-term customers here but their rigs seem clean and well maintained, unlike the long-term customers in some RV parks that we’ve visited.
The sites are covered in pea gravel and have nicely-maintained grass between them and there was a picnic table as well. This has been a nice change as we’ve been on mushy dirt of late which, naturally, finds its way into our camper. It also rains much less here than in Northern California.
We arrived after the office closed and they had an individual at a guard shack at the entrance who was very, very helpful and polite. This made checking in after dark, which is not something we typically like doing, more pleasant. The pull-through site helped as well - we didn’t even both unhooking the truck!
One thing, though, the campground is pretty brightly iit. Fortunately our trailer has really good shades and blinds so, for us, it was no big deal at all.
Valencia Travel Village amenities
Since this is a larger campground there are quite a few things happening here. There are several pools and a hot tub, but all of those were closed while we were there because of winter as defined by SoCal residents. Ha!
There is also a huge camp store that’s almost as large as some convenience stores and about as well equipped.
Something interesting in the camp store is a large collection of DVDs and CDs. You can buy a CD for 10¢ or a DVD for 50¢. I actually considered browsing the collection but, alas, I no longer have a provision to play any of these vintage formats. Still, I’m sure many do.
There are also very clean shower and toilet facilities and a rather large laundry facility. There are also a few gathering spots and, of course, a well-manicured dog area.
Something interesting I found was a game room full of things like foosball and that sort of thing. There was also a gathering room which was meant for adults only and had couches and even an old upright piano.
Valencia Travel Village tips
Peggy found this park through the listing provided by Passport America. We have said, in the past, that this discount program really works for us and it did here, resulting in our night’s stay being only half the retail price. This one night would have justified our Passport America membership and we’ve used it in quite a number of other places.
As mentioned there is a lot of draw to this area in the northern end of Los Angeles County. With so much going on in the area along with the proximity to so many people living in LowCal I was surprised that we were able to get a reservation, let alone one at half price.
